Laura Lee Thumma, age 97 of Stanwood, passed away on Sunday August 7, 2022 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. A memorial service celebrating Laura's life will be held on Saturday October 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Stanwood Union Church. Pastor Ron Lashmit will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. She will be buried next to her husband in the Stanwood Cemetery.
Laura was born July 27, 1925 in Bagley, Iowa to Merle and Alice (Underwood) Hawley. She married Glenn Thumma on August 13, 1944, and he passed away on April 26, 2001.
She is survived by her sons Gregory (Carol) of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Gary (Sue) of Stanwood, Geoffrey (Marcia) of Lake Stevens, Washington, and Bruce (Lynn) of Sarasota, Florida; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brothers Dale Hawley of Manhattan, Kansas, and Charles (Karen) Hawley of Penora, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings Wayne, Irene, Ruth, Wilma, and Linda; and grandson Jeff Thumma.
Laura was a member of the Stanwood Union Church where she had taught Sunday school and was a bible school teacher. She was a 50 year member of the Federated Women's Club (Laetitians), was a past member of the Stanwood Library Board, owned Lee's Ceramic Shop for 35 years, and also was a Cub Scouts Den Leader. Laura was an avid reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast, enjoyed crocheting, and also working with all the kids.
