Lavern Schwien, age 85 of Clarence, passed away on Sunday August 20, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 26 at 11:00 AM at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Janet Shotwell officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time at the church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Lavern was born March 5,1938 to Hermann and Edna (Schroeder) Schwien in Clarence, Iowa. He married Karen Kintzel on April 1, 1961 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence.

Lavern is survived by his wife Karen; daughter Lisa of Clarence; and sister Marylin Riedesel of Eldridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lavern served his country honorably in the Army. He was a lifelong farmer and worked for Wapsie Valley Creamery until his retirement. Lavern also enjoyed fishing, his draft horses, and trips to Alaska to visit Lisa.
