LaVonne Chapman, age 94 of Clarence, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, September 18, 2014 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 20, 2014 at 10:30 A.M at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M til service time at the church.
LaVonne was born on January 13, 1920 to Emil and Arkie (Miller) Olson in Cedar County. She married Paul L. Chapman on March 22, 1941. He died February 25, 2011.
LaVonne was a 1938 graduate of Stanwood High School. She attended Tipton Junior College and taught rural school near Atilissa for 1 year. In 1947 Paul and LaVonne established Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence and in Wheatland in 1955. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary of Clarence. Playing golf and a good game of bridge were her favorite pastimes.
She is survived by her son, Paul Jr. and wife Karla of Clarence; grandchildren, Jodi (Ken) Henke of Norwalk, Dan (Gretchen) of Clarence, and Lori (Todd) Miller of Tipton; 7 great grandchildren, Michaela and Nathan Henke; Ben, Kiley and Blake Chapman; and Grace and Ty Nichols.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Cyril Olson.
