Lawrence (Tay) Riedesel, age 91, of Wheatland, Iowa, died February 17, 2008, at in his home. Lawrence was born October 23, 1916, on a farm near Wheatland to Theophil and Augusta (Struck) Riedesel. Tay was a graduate of Wheatland High School in 1934. On October 12, 1940 he married Evelyn Dann. She died on July 28, 2005. Tay and Evelyn were avid gardeners, enjoying their flowers and canning vegetables for their family. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, coaching little league baseball teams and loved spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of St.Paul's Church and had served on the church consistory. In early years he had several farm related jobs in the Wheatland area. He and Darry Zeller owned and operated the Wheatland Produce Mill for many years until his retirement. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland, Iowa, with Reverend Laird Keever officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 20, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Tay is survived by his daughter Marcia (Eugene) Kemmann of Wheatland; daughter-in-law Paulette Riedesel of Sun City, Arizona; 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-laws Elaine Hack of Lost Nation and Earleen Muhl of Wheatland; and a special friend Ruth Hoffmann of Wheatland. Tay was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn and son Terry.
