Leona C. Dewell, age 95, of Clarence, Iowa, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Leona was born in rural Clarence January 20, 1914, to Fred and Dora (Griem) Meyer. Leona married Harold Dewell May 16, 1935, in Clarence. Harold died in 1990. Leona was a member of St. John's Church and a Charter Member of the Church's Lend-a-Hand Circle. She also was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Monday, August 3, 2009, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, with Pastor Lynn Butterbrodt officiating. Burial will follow in Clarence Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5pm on Sunday, August 2, 2009, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Leona is survived by her sons Larry (Nonie) and David (Pat), both of Lowden; seven grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers Orville and Richard Meyer.
