Leona B. Hunwardsen, age 100 of Clarence, died Wednesday December 24, 2014 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Monday December 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M til service time at the church. Leona was born on March 6, 1914 to William and Meta (Roennau) Horn in Cedar County. She married Herman Hunwardsen on June 23, 1935 in Clarence. He died January 14, 1989. Leona enjoyed gardening, cooking & baking, and quilting & crocheting. She loved her grand and great grandchildren very much and was very active in St. John's Church over the years. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Phyllis) of Clarence and Dennis (Donna) of Jackson, MN.; daughter, Cindy (Joel) Kruckenberg of Ames; grandchildren, Lynn Butterbrodt, Mark (Melody) Hunwardsen, Roger (Kim) Hunwardsen, Ross (Lisa) Hunwardsen, Chad (Kristen) Kruckenberg, Kayla (Scott) Irwin, and Tyler (Amanda) Kruckenberg; and 16 great grandchildren. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Marvin; and sister, Florence.
