Leona L. Doermann, 88, of Mechanicsville, Iowa, died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Tipton after a short illness. Leona was born on April 2, 1920, in Mechanicsville to Carl and Minnie (Horstmann) Lehrman. Leona married Eric Doermann on June 8, 1946, in Clarence, IA; Eric died on June 11, 2003. Funeral services for Leona Doermann will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Church Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00-7:00pm on Monday, December 15, 2008, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Leona was a graduate of Stanwood High School and had farmed with her husband, Eric, in the Mechanicsville area. Special thanks to the staff of Prairie Hills and Mercy Hospice of Cedar Rapids. Leona is survived by her daughter Patricia (Tom) Ferguson of Cedar Rapids; son Gary (Cathy) of Mechanicsville; and two grandchildren Amelia and Sara. Leona was proceeded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters Alice Lehrman and Dorothy Doermann; and an infant at birth.
