Lester Paul Rix, age 94 of Olin, passed away on Saturday October 11, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 16, 2014 at 10:30 A.M at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 15, 2014 from 4-7 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. A masonic service will be held at 7. Lester was born on November 22, 1919 in Cedar County to Paul and Alma (Goldsmith) Rix. He graduated from high school with the class of 1936. Lester married Ruth Raymond on November 21, 1942 in Oxford Junction. She died May 19, 2013. Lester was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence and a 50 year member of the Olin Masonic Lodge. Lester and his wife, Ruth, farmed in the Clarence area until 1954 when they moved to Olin. They continued farming north of Olin until 1977 when they moved into town. Lester and Ruth enjoyed many years of traveling together. He is survived by his son, Gary (JaneAnn) of Anamosa; daughters, Reatha Scheibeler of Atlantic and Donna (Darrell) Jordan of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Kristen Morrison, Laura (Will) Thomson, Dennis (Angela) Jordan, David (Kristie) Jordan, Duane (Leigh Ann) Jordan, Allen Rix, and Justin Rix; 15 great grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene (Bricen) Krafock of Clarence. Lester was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Elna Graf and Verda Freese; and son-in-law, Mike Scheibeler.
