Lillian L. Brendes, age 100, of Lowden, IA, died on January 23, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA. Lillian was born October 16, 1911, in Lowden, Iowa to Fred Dreyer and Frieda (Schaeffer) Dreyer. Lillian married Walter Brendes on July 26, 1934.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Zion United Church Of Christ in Lowden, Iowa, with Reverend Stephen Stepp officiating. Burial will follow at Lowden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, January 25, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Lillian was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. The family later transferred their membership to the Zion U.C.C. church in Lowden. After being married, Walter and Lillian farmed for over 30 years south of Lowden. They were the parents of 3 children: Kenneth, Kay and Sharon. Lillian was an active member for many years of the choir, Bible class, Women's fellowship, and the quilting group, and was still quilting at age 95. She worked at the hotel in Lowden, Schoff's Cafe, and after the children were grown she worked a the Arrow Cafe as a baker and waitress for 19 years. Lillian loved life and enjoyed cooking, baking, music, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was a wonderful person and will be missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Kay (Frank) Fischer of Cedar Rapids, Sharon (Jim) Kruckenberg of Lowden; 7 grandchildren: Craig (Janice) Fischer, Denise (Steve) Stockman, Scott (Jody) Kruckenberg, Mindy (John) Meyne, Dan (Ann) Brendes, Tim (Trudee) Brendes and Mike (Kim) Brendes; 11 grandchildren: Michael and Kevin Fischer, Chelsea and Nathan Rohlf, Nate and Nic Eckhardt, Kyle, Keith and Josie Brendes, Natalie and Lauren Brendes; one sister Florence Struck; and many nieces and nephews.
Lillian was proceeded in death by her parents; husband Walter; son Kenneth; brother Lawrence Dreyer; sisters Dorothy Yoder, Irene Stansberry, and Lucille Kucera; and three infant grandchildren: Laura and Linda Fischer and Kristen Kruckenberg.
