Lorraine E. Carroll, age 91, passed away Wednesday August 22, 2012 at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home. The fourth of five children of Fred and Sarah(Sloan)Witte, she was born on January 10,1921. Lorraine Lived her entire life in the Wheatland, Iowa area, graduating from Wheatland High School in 1939. She was baptized,confirmed, and later married to Wayne Carroll in St. Paul's United Church of Christ. She served there as Young People's Christian League president, taught Sunday School, and was superintendent and choir member. Lorraine was a member of the Martha Aid and served as president for them as well. Lorraine served as secretary for the Wheatland Manor Auxiliary for nearly ten years and was a charter member of the Wheatland Betterment Committee and was its first vice president. She was on the Wheatland wire staff and served a short time as mentor at the Calamus-Wheatland Elementary School.\nLorraine worked for the Postal Service in Wheatland,Clinton and Rock Island. She retired in 1988 to care for her husband who passed away in 1997. Her two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. She was devoted to her sons, Vincent(wife Molly) of Florida, Lynn(wife Barbara) of Arizona, and Clayton of Davenport,Iowa. She also leaves 3 grandsons and 5 great-grandchildren plus nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a later date, as It was Lorraine's wish to be cremated and her ashes returned to the earth. Arrangements are with Chapman Funeral Home, Wheatland.
