Marilyn M. Obermier, age 81, of Clarence, Iowa, died on March 30, 2012 at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice of Mercy in Hiawatha. Marilyn was born March 8, 1931, in Lowden, IA to Forest Ford and Myrtle Straub. Marilyn married Wallace Russell Obermier June 4, 1950. He died December 8, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood, Iowa, with Reverend Victor Young officiating. Burial will follow at Dayton Valley Cemetery in Clarence. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 4, at the Chapman's Funeral Home in Clarence.
Marilyn graduated from Lowden High School. After Wallace and Marilyn were married they resided in rural Clarence and raised six children, along with working a farm which produced dairy cows,hogs and crops. Marilyn also enjoyed horseback riding. Wally and Marilyn retired from the farm in 1980 to the town of Clarence and they spent many years as snow-birds in Silver City, New Mexico. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stanwood.
Marilyn had a passion for cooking for others. For several years she was the proprietor of "The Place Mat" in Clarence where she cooked specialty dinners in her home for private parties. Her happiest moments were providing enormous feasts for family gatherings.
Marilyn took joy in being outdoors - doing gardening (especially her tomatoes); hiking and camping in her Winnebago, "Winne-Babe". Marilyn loved traveling with friends to different destinations and loved to share her stories of her travels when she came home. She also loved Nascar racing and spending time with friends over a margarita at Mac's Triangle on Friday nights.
The family wishes to thank Pastors Victor Young, Randy Kasch, Trish Decker and Daniel Krueger for their many visits during Marilyn's illness and to all at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice of Mercy for their tender care during her last days.
She is survived by children Sherrie (Richard) Burcham of Silver City, NM; Ann (Glen) Kaiser of Anaheim, CA.; David (Reine) Obermier of Punta Gorda, FL.; Kathy (Tim) Brodahl of Hiawatha and Lorraine (Michael) Jordan of Swisher. Grandchildren: Jan, Mandee, Tawnya, Matthew, Kimberly, Shane, Kristinea, Zachery, Brandon, Vanessa, Jennifer and Christina. 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister Jan (Bob) Alexander of Silver City, NM.
Marylin was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Glenn.
