Martha I. Lehrman, age 82, of Mechanicsville, Iowa, went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 23, 2007, at home after a battle with cancer. Martha was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Luzerne, Iowa to Edward and Emma (Danker) Backes. Martha married Melvin Lehrman Sept. 15, 1946, at Keystone, Iowa. Funeral services have been moved back a day, they will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood, Iowa, with Reverend Timothy Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Stanwood Cemetery. Visitation has also been postponed until 3:00-7:00 pm on Monday, February 26, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Gayle and brother Franklin. Martha was survived by husband Melvin, daughter LaVon (Richard) Boesenberg of Martelle, sons Allen of Cedar Rapids, Kevin (Marilyn) of Goldfield, Kelvin of Iowa City, Royce (Sandra) of Mechanicsville, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, sisters Alice(Edgar) Heitshusen of South Amana, Luella Scott of Mechanicsville, Velma (Ivan)Butt of Dows and Frances(Don) Magdefrau of Belle Plaine. Martha was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday School for 30 years. She was a member of Lutheran L.W.M.L. and L.L.L. and Lutheran World relief. She was also a member of Farm Bureau Freemont Homemakers. Martha and Melvin were avid square dancers and belonged to the East Central Federation of square dancers.
