Martha Marcella Petersen, age 77 of Wheatland and formerly of DeWitt, passed away on Friday September 16, 2016 at Wheatland Manor. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2016 at 10:30 A.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland with Pastor Eric Swenson officiating. Burial will follow at the Big Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M at Chapman's in Wheatland on Tuesday September 20. Martha was born on September 4, 1939 to Arthur G. and Wilma (Eserhaut) Petersen in Scott County, Iowa. Martha worked as a cook for Mae Boyer and then owned & operated Martha's Café in DeWitt for 44 years. She graduated from Wheatland High School in 1957 then completed two years of teacher's college in Cedar Falls. Martha loved talking to people and making pies. She made over 100 puzzles at Wheatland Manor, loved to play bingo and was a Hawkeye fan. She is survived by her sister, Arlene Geer of New Liberty; brother, Arthur Petersen of New Liberty; and special cousin, Wayne Eserhaut of Big Rock. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vernagene Petersen; and special friend, Donald Feldpausch.
