Obituary

Mary Rose Walshire, 89, of Mechanicsville, passed away Thursday March 7, 2013 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday March 11, 2013 at 10:00 A.M at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville with Father David Hitch officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville. Visitation will be held on Sunday March 10, 2013 from 4-6 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Mary was born on December 21, 1923 to Leo and Winafred (Merritt) Crock in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married Donald Walshire on January 28, 1946. He died in 1997. Mary graduated from Mechanicsville High School and business college in Cedar Rapids. Mary and her husband farmed the family farm from 1946 until Don's retirement in 1980. She was an active member of St. Mary's Parish and the ladies guild, as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include 8 sons; Keith (Nancy) of Mechanicsville, Allan (Maggie) of Topeka, Kansas, Loren (June) of Onega, Kansas, Michael of Topeka, Kansas, Dennis (Ora) of Mechanicsville, Brian (Vicki) of Rowley, Jeff (Faith) of West Liberty, and Vince of Glenwood; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; brother, Francis Crock; and grandchildren, Tom and Jason Walshire. The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Gardens for the excellent care Mary recieved while she was there.
