Mary Ellen Weiland, age 84, passed away Sunday February 18, 2018 at Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be on Friday February 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, Iowa. Visitation will be at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence on Thursday February 22 from 4-7 p.m. with a rosary service at 7. Burial will be in the Stanwood Cemetery.
Mary Ellen was born on July 28, 1933 in Creston, Nebraska to Ray and Rose Thomas Koch. She was united in marriage on February 8, 1955 to Leonard Weiland at Battle Creek, Nebraska. He passed away on June 27, 1997.
Survivors include 3 sons; Tom (Dawn) of Stanwood, Chuck (Kathy) of Remsen, Iowa, Mike (Laurie) of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Arlene Weiland; son-in-law, Kevin Wright; sister Margaret (Bill) Reisdorf of Battle Creek, Nebraska; brothers Bob (Kay) Hoffman of Endicott, New York and Larry (Barb) Hoffman of Norfolk, Nebraska;16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and a special cousin Charlotte Jones of Columbus, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father Fred Hoffman; Husband; son Eugene; daughter Betty; 1 sister and 4 brothers.
Faith and family were the most important to Mary Ellen. She liked to bake, cook, quilt, play the piano, and was a cubs fan. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's women's guild. Leonard and Mary Ellen moved from Nebraska in 1958 to Stanwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Manor, St. Luke's Hospice, St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Tipton or Stanwood Ambulance.
