Melvin Hasselbusch, age 92, of Clarence, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at University Hospital, Iowa City. Melvin was born November 27, 1914, in Clarence to Paul and Pauline (Meier) Hasselbusch. Melvin married Helen Kelly on December 4, 1937 in Clarence.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 24, 2007, at St. John's United Church Of Christ in Clarence, Iowa, with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm on Friday, March 23, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Melvin was a 1932 graduate of Clarence High School and was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ were he had sang in the choir for over 60 years. He was a former church council member at St. John's and former board member of Clarence Coop, Dayton Creamery, and Clarence School.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Elwood and Arlo. Melvin was survived by his wife Helen, daughter Kay (Bill) Leighty of Tipton, son Robert (Arlynn) of Clarence, grandsons Mike (Tina) Hasselbusch of Italy, Eric (Andrea) Hasselbusch of Lisbon, great granddaughters Emily, Olivia, Renae, Nicole, and brother Paul of Clarence.
