Obituary

Melvin H.L. Lehrman, age 90 of Mechanicsville, child of God and lifelong farmer, was called from this life during his last harvest season on Wednesday October 26, 2016 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 29, 2016 at 10:30 A.M at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood with Reverend William Traphagan officiating. Burial will follow at the Stanwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M on Friday October 28 at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Born September 10, 1926, Melvin was the fifth of six children born to Paul & Ida (Luedemann) Lehrman. He received his education in Stanwood. Melvin and Martha Backes were married in Keystone on September 15, 1946 and celebrated 60 years together. They lived on and farmed the family farm where Melvin grew up and Melvin was able to help with the farming, even though "retired", through age 85. Melvin was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood; a member of The Charlois Association and The Lutheran Laymen's League for several years; and he and Martha square danced for 39 years. Melvin danced his last dances when he was 85. Survivors include his children, Allen Lehrman, Kevin & Marilyn Lehrman, Kelvin Lehrman, Royce & Sandi Lehrman and LaVon & Richard Boesenberg; grandchildren and families: Laura & William Schaffer and Amanda, Jonathon & Emily; Greg & Courtney Lehrman; Keith & MaryAnn Lehrman and Mayson, Addyson & Karson; and Kelly & Roy Stillwagon and Annika & Brooke; his brother, Arnold and Doris Lehrman; sister-in-laws, Alice Heitshusen, Luella Scott, Velma and Ivan Butt and Frances Magdefrau; many nieces and nephews; good friend, Linda Althaus; and the Clarence Senior Living family over the last three years and four months. Preceding Melvin in death were his wife, Martha in 2007; daughter, Gayle; grandson, Jeff Lehrman; his parents; siblings & spouses: Herbert & Florence Lehrman, Alma & Raymond Hansen, Louise & Larry Siebels, and Helen & Buell Jackson; and brother-in-laws, Edgar Heitshusen, John D. Scott, Don Magdefrau and Franklin Backes. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials can be directed to the Lutheran Laymen's League and the Clarence Nursing Home.
