Merle W. Lehrman, age 97 of Stanwood, passed away on Monday July 30, 2018 at Mechanicsville Specialty Care. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 4 at 11:00 A.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Burial will follow at the Stanwood Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M until service time at the funeral home. Merle was born on March 9, 1921 to Herman and Anna (Luedeman) Lehrman in Stanwood, Iowa. He married Maxine Andresen on October 18, 1942 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood. She died on September 15, 2014. Merle was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Army and was awarded four bronze stars. He was a member of the Stanwood Legion and a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Merle was a carpenter and a farmer in life, and previously worked for the city of Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed fishing, trips to Arizona, was a Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan, and loved dances & Lyle Beaver. Merle enjoyed square dancing with his wife Maxine and loved his family dearly. Merle is survived by his daughter, Carole Lehrman Anderson of Cedar Rapids; sons, Robert of Bettendorf and David (Eva Fried) of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Tracy (Carl) Barton, Kelly (Joanna) Anderson, Rhonda (Marc Graham) McDonald, Stephanie (Sam) Roll, Derek Lehrman, and Alix Lehrman; five great grandchildren; brother, Frederick (Marge) Lehrman of Stanwood; sister Eloise Wood of Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; brothers, Erwin & Louis; granddaughter, Lisa Anderson; and infant sister, Pauline.
