Michael Hamilton, 59, of Wheatland Iowa died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Veterans Hospital in Knoxville after battling cancer. Michael was born on April 21, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa to Milton and Mary (Michael) Hamilton.
Memorial services will be held at the Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland Iowa at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 16, 2007 with Reverend Laird Keever officiation. Internment will be at the Elwood Cemetery in Elwood Iowa with military rites. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at the Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland. Per Michael's wishes, his body has been cremated.
Michael was a graduate of Calamus High School in 1965. He worked a short time at Fred Meier's B P Feed Store in Wheatland and also worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for several months. During the Vietnam era he was drafted on June 8, 1966 into the Army where he completed basic training and his advanced individual training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. He was assigned overseas duty near Seoul Korea for thirteen months. During his overseas duty he was assigned to 58th Ordinance Company, 83rd Battalion. His military duty was completed June 7th 1972. Michael worked for Caterpillar Tractor for 21 years before the plant closed in 1989. He then worked for Olson Engineering until 2000 when he suffered health problems. Michael enjoyed playing cards, wood working, word puzzles, friends and family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and had a compassionate and loving heart.
Michael is survived by his daughter Melissa Stringer and her husband Shawn of Danville, three grandchildren Rylea, Conor, and Shaye; a brother David (Dudley), and wife Sue of Wheatland; and a sister Margaret Vetter and husband Tom of Grand Mound.
Michael was proceeded in death by his parents.
