Mildred F. Smith, age 99 of Davenport, died Tuesday May 24, 2016 at the Kahl Home in Davenport. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 27 at 12:30 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M until service time. Mildred was born on September 13, 1916 to Herman and Fanny (Newmarch) Galitz in Fedora, South Dakota. She married Delmar Smith on July 29, 1939. He died December 6, 1992. Mildred enjoyed walking. She also enjoyed camping and tanning in her earlier years. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Dierckx of Royal, WI; sons, Richard (Sandra) and Larry of Davenport, and Robert of Milan, Ill; grandchildren, Richard Jr. (Connie) Smith, Becky (Kelly) Meyer, James (Lisa) Cox II, Cyndi Cox, Nichole Smith, Thomas Smith, and Theresa (Jon) Czarnetzki; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and sister, Grace Johnson of Arizona. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delmar; daughter, Barbara Smith; and 10 siblings.
