Myrl C. Edler, age 97 of Clarence, passed away on Sunday January 24, 2021 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Private family services will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Reverend Matt Schneider-Adams officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Clarence with military rites.
Myrl was born on May 17, 1923 to Fred and Emma (Boedeker) Edler in a farmhouse southeast of Lowden, Iowa. He married Neoma Nebergall on July 18, 1946 at South Bethel Church.
Myrl served his country in the Navy Air Corps during World War II from 1943-1946. He was a member of St. John's UCC and Clarence American Legion Post 286 and sang in the St. John's choir for over 35 years. Myrl was president of the church council and custodian at St. John's for 6 years. He was also president of the church council at the Evangelical & Reform Church in Tipton for 6 years.
Myrl loved golfing, bowling, playing cards, was an avid reader and a big Iowa Hawkeye fan. He farmed in Cedar County until he was 72 and continued working around the farm until his health no longer allowed him to. Myrl was also very particular about his lawn!
He is survived by his wife, Neoma; children Myrl Ann Kern (husband Bruce), Mark Edler (wife Barbara), Marcy Tate (husband Bill), Marlece Edler-Coussens (husband David Coussens), and Richard Edler (wife Renae); 14 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
Myrl was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; and 2 grandchildren.
