Neal H. Smith, age 81, passed away on Thursday July 22, 2021 at Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Per Neal's request, there will be no services. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Neal was born June 20, 1940 in Cedar Rapids to James H. and Evelyn M. Eilers Smith. He was married to Judy Vahle on September 7, 1963. Survivors are his wife Judy; son Craig of Stanwood; and daughter Carmen Smith of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents. Neal attended Iowa State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree of Animal Science. He then went to Boys Town, Nebraska to be their herdsman, before coming home to Stanwood to run the Century family farm and raise livestock with his dad. Neal loved his livestock, judging livestock shows, and supporting young kids showing livestock. He was an avid supporter of the Cedar County Fair and enjoyed going to the Iowa State Fair. He was a Farm Bureau member, Iowa Cattlemen Association member, as well as many other associations through his life. Neal was a man of few words but was always thinking and observing, as well as a loving husband and father.
