Paul Hegarty, age 86, of Clarence, Iowa, died December 22, 2007, at at his home after a lengthy illness. Paul was born February 25, 1921, in Cedar County to Samuel and Hazel (Sloan) Hegarty. Paul married Elaine Colvin Aug. 4, 1978 at Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Paul had been a farmer and also taught school at Bennett for 20 years. He also had served in the Coast Guard. He was a 50 year member of Fremont Masonic Lodge and a member of the Stanwood American Legion.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Chapman Funeral Home, Iowa, with Reverend Timothy Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Stanwood Cemetery with graveside military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 26, at Chapman Funeral Home with a masonic service at 7:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice or Clarence Ambulance or Fire Department.
Paul is survived by his wife Elaine; daughter Willow Durand of Sarasota, Florida, and sons Pat of Mechanicsville and Michael of Wimauma, Florida; stepdaughters Sharon Stewart and Diane Northington of Clarence and Linda Horman of Tipton; and stepson Mike Colvin of Lowden. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by parents, sister Bethany Evans, step son Gary Colvin, and his dog Roscoe.
