Philip "Gor" Sheldon, 56, of Clarence, Iowa, died of a heart attack on Monday, September 22, 2008, while working at River Valley Coop in Stanwood, Iowa. Philip was born on October 10, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Gilbert and Rosalie (Sander) Sheldon. Philip married Jacquelyn Wenndt on September 2, 1978, in Lowden, Iowa. Philip served in the Marines from 1971-1973. He was an avid hunter, loved playing basketball with younger kids and enjoyed the Outdoor Channel. He was well known for his unique dancing. He was a member of St. John's Church.
Funeral services for Philip will be held at 10:30am on Friday, September 26, 2008, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, with Reverend David Mears officiating. Following services his body will be cremated with inurnment at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00pm on Thursday, September 25, at St. John's Church.
Philip is survived by wife Jacquelyn; daughters Regan (Matt) Jacobson of Minona, Iowa, Rachel Sheldon of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Randi Sheldon (Cody Phillips) of Marion, Iowa; his parents Gib and Rosalie Sheldon of Clarence; sisters Connie Crock of Mankato, Minnesota, Janice Gsell of Eldridge, Iowa, Barb Sheldon of Redford, Michigan, Nancy Sheldon of Los Angeles, California, and Jill (Craig) Hlas of Cedar Rapids; brother Ron Sheldon of Lompoc, California; granddaughter Morgan; and special nieces and nephews.
Philip was proceeded in death by his brother, Dennis.
