Phyllis L. Portewig, age 95, of Stanwood, Iowa, died on February 23, 2012 at Clarence Nursing Home. Phyllis was born June 7, 1916, in Des Moines, IA to Harold LaPlant and Josephine (Day) LaPlant. Phyllis married Paul Portewig on August 18, 1934 in Stanwood, Iowa. He died October of 1996. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence, with Pastor Phil Leipold and Pastor Lorraine Hartman officiating. Burial will follow at Stanwood Cemetery. Phyllis was a member of the Stanwood Women's Club, Eastern Star, Stanwood Union Church, and was an active member in the Older Iowans Legislature for many years. Phyllis enjoyed playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family. She is survived by 2 grandchildren: Laureen Joye (Mark) Mason of Breckenridge, CO, and Randall Paul (Cathy) Roth of Palatka, FL; \ngreat-granddaughters Kristen Joye (Nick) Sorenson of Littleton, CO, and Anna K. Roth of Palatka, FL; great-great-grandchildren Gage and Sofia Sorenson of Littleton, CO; son-in-law Eldon Roth of Mountain Home, AR; and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, sister, daughter, and 1 great-grandson.
