Ray Meier, age 87, of Lowden, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center East in Davenport, Iowa. Raymond Walter Louis Meier was born November 9, 1921, in rural Wheatland, Iowa to Albert and Ida (Hein) Meier. He married Luetta Licht December 2, 1945, in Lowden. Luetta died May 30, 2009.
Together with wife Luetta, Ray farmed for many years. He worked in sales for feed and seed corn companies. Ray and Luetta were greenskeepers at Lowden's 3/30 Country Club for 22 years. For 4 1/2 years, they were greeters at Wal-mart in Clinton. Ray and brothers Arnom and Erwin, known as the Meier Boys, performed music throughout their lives. After the Meier Boys stopped performing as a group, Ray continued to provide many with musical entertainment at his keyboard.
Funeral services for Ray Meier will be held at 10:30am Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland.
Ray is survived by his daughters Linda Pasvogel of Fenton, Illinois and Lorna (Norman) Seifert of Long Grove, Iowa; sons Roger of Carlisle, Iowa and Russ (Stefanie) of Grandmound; and 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife Luetta and brothers Arnom and Erwin.
