Reuben D. Strackbein, 83, of Lowden, Iowa died Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa after a sudden illness. Reuben was born on May 24, 1925, in Lowden, to Francis and Lydia (Conrad) Strackbein. Reuben served in the Army and was retired as a custodian from Cornell College. He moved to the Veterans Home in 2001. He was a member of the Lowden American Legion. Funeral services for Reuben Strackbein will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 31, 2008 at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence, Iowa, with Reverend Barbara Muhs officiating. Inurnment will be at Lowden Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held before the service, starting at 9:00 am. Reuben is survived by his sister Faith (Gerald) Hein of Marion, Iowa and brother Kent (Janice) of Lowden. Reuben was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Kermit and sister Edith Sterenberg.
