Robert "Bob" L. Rix, age 87, of Clarence, Iowa, died May 2, 2011 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. Robert was born January 3, 1924, in Clarence, Iowa to Hugo H. Rix and Alma F. (Hillman) Rix. Robert married Verna Lee Dircks on March 11, 1945 in Clarence. She died July 9, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 6, 2011, at St. John's United Church Of Christ in Clarence, Iowa, with Rev. David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, May 5, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Pallbearers are Heath Anderson, Blake Anderson, Jonathan Deerberg, Gary Deerberg, Michael Helmold, and Ken Dircks. Honorary pallbearers are Don Bixler, Merlin Hulse, and Keith Russell. Robert was a member of the Freemont Masonic Lodge in Stanwood. He was a former church council member and choir member. Bob loved to play golf and was a wonderful caregiver. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Kristin (Van) Coleman of Stanwood, and Antoinette (Thomas) Harms of Bloomington, MN; 3 grandchildren: Heath (Sami) Anderson of Williamsburg, IA, Blake Anderson, and Marion Kalle (Derrick) Richman of Marion; significant other Lorraine "Lori" Becker of Clarence; and sister Mildred Swanson of Surprise, AZ. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth and wife Verna Lee.
