Robert Von Muenster, 86, of Clarence died on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Robert was born in Cedar County on March 21, 1921, to Charles and Meta (Horn) Von Muenster. Robert was married to Hazel Yock on March 3, 1946, and enjoyed 61 years of marriage together.
Funeral services for Robert Von Muenster will be held on Monday, July 30, 2007, at 2:00 P.M. at the Chapman Funeral Home. Reverend David Mears will be officiating. Per Robert's wishes his body has been cremated, internment will be in Clarence Cemetery with graveside military rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Robert served in the Army during WW11 for 27 months in the South Pacific and received the purple heart. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, and American Legion Post #286 for 61 years. He was also a member of Freemont Masonic Lodge #616 for over 50 years.
Robert is survived by his wife Hazel; 3 sons Don (Lou Ann) of Clarence, Leroy (Nancy) of Bennett, and Tom (Corky) of Clarence; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 3 sisters Dorothy Benhart, Donna Rehmke, and Betty Rehmke all of Oxford Junction; and 2 sister in laws Irene Von Muenster of Anamosa and Lois Hartig of Tipton.
Robert was proceeded in death by his brothers Bill and Leo, sister Shirley, infant sister Helen, and infant brother Dale.\n
