IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert E. "Woody"
Woode
March 22, 1935 – December 5, 2023
Robert E. (Woody) Woode, age 88, passed away on Tuesday evening, December 5, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. A family burial will be held in Red Oak Cemetery, Tipton. Bob loved sports and wanted to invite all to wear Hawkeye attire or your favorite teams clothing for the service.
Bob was born March 22, 1935 in Clarence, Iowa to Forest D. and Esther (Goldsmith) Woode. He was married in 1958 and later divorced. On Easter Sunday, March 31, 1991 he married Marilyn Ellen Thomas in Atlanta, GA.
He is survived by his lovely and caring wife Marilyn; daughters Wendy Holland of Eldridge, Nancy and Sarah of Eldridge, and Diane (Darl) Osborne of Davenport; sons David (Debbie) Thomas of Sugar Hills, GA, and Stephen (Angel) Thomas of Austin, TX; sister Sandra Willert of Tipton; brother-in-law Virgil Hamdorf of Massillon; 11 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and uncle Alfred Worrell of West Branch.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Bonnie Hamdorf; niece Donna Gritton; son-in-law Bill Holland; and nephew Jim Willert. "God Bless You All".
Bob was baptized on September 29, 1935 and confirmed on April 10, 1949 at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Clarence. He graduated from Clarence High School in 1953, where he was the captain of the unbeaten state basketball team.
After graduation, Bob purchased a Sinclair Service Station and later bought a petroleum truck. He sold out to ARCO (Atlantic Richfield Co.) working as a petroleum representative. Given the opportunity, he transferred into the farm tire sales and service department. For years farmers said he was one of the best! He retired from Goodyear Consignment Warehouse in 2004.
Woody was a sports jock and practical jokester with a quick wit. He would put a smile on anyone's face at any time. Woody always said he had 2 hobbies: shoveling snow and mowing lawns. He was on the Clarence Volunteer Fire Department for years until moving to Davenport, where he was a Dad's Club softball coach.
Bob ran 22 BIX races as well as numerous other road races, but due to injuries he threw in the towel at age 70, after finishing first in his age bracket in the Quick BIX.
Bob and Marilyn enjoyed numerous trips with their son Stephen and daughter-in-law Angel. They visited many islands, but his favorite was the Sacred Monkey Haven on the top of the Rock of Gibraltar. When all was said and done, he always said he only wanted to live in Iowa because you can get all four seasons in one day: sunshine, rain, sleet and snow.
Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the National I Club, AARP, and the Plus 60 Club.
Memorials may be made to Costello Syndrome Family Network in the name of Westin Thomas.
The family would like to thank Nicole, Alexa, Ashley, Mary, Heather, and Amanda for their special care they gave Bob, and also Leila for the great care and help she provided.
