Obituary

Roger H. Tenley, age 76 of Stanwood, passed away on May 4, 2017 at St. Luke's Unity Point Hospice in Cedar Rapids. A graveside service will take place on Sunday June 18, 2017 at 11:00 A.M at the Stanwood Cemetery with Reverend Ron Lashmit officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Stanwood Fire Station. Roger was born on October 27, 1940 to Howard and Mildred (Horne) Tenley in Anamosa, Iowa. He married Verona Behrens on August 1, 1959 in Stanwood. She died in 1992. Roger worked at Jack's Feed & Grain, Steel Country, River Valley, did custom combining, was a farm hand, farmed on the side, and was a member of the Stanwood Fire Department. Roger loved gardening, baking, and cruising the country roads. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Larry (Jackie Litty) of Clarence; daughters, Jolene Davis of Washington, IA, Karen (Darold) Adams of Wilton; and Ruth Ann (David) Beers of Stanwood; grandchildren, Rose Ann (Jesse) Shankland, Kyle (Samantha) Davis, Amanda (Kyle) Ellithorpe, Robert Adams, Ashley Beers, and Emily Beers; great grandchildren, Chandler Shankland, Olivia Davis, Lillian Ellithorpe and Tyler Ellithorpe; brothers, Richard Tenley of Mechanicsville, John (Karen) Tenley of Stanwood and Dale (Donna) Tenley of Toronto; sisters, Joyce Wagner of Stanwood, Mary (Jim) Clark of Tipton, Linda Walshire of Kansas, Wanda (Gordon) Farrington of Mechanicsville, and Martha Becker of Tipton; and sister-in-laws, Doris Tenley and Marla Tenley. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verona (Kay); brothers, Dean and Steven; infant sister, Della; and great grandson, Lincoln Noel Ellithorpe.
