Rosalie A. Sheldon, 77, of Clarence, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after a lenghty illness. Rosalie was born on November 8, 1931, in Lowden, Iowa, to Henry Otto and Luanna (Freese) Sander. Rosalie married Gilbert Sheldon on March 25, 1949, in Clarence.
Rosalie had worked as the City Clerk of Clarence for 21 years. She also was a news correspondent for the Sun-News for many years. She had been a member of St. John's Bell Choir and taught Sunday School for many years. For 19 years she had been Treasure of the Clarence American Legion. She was an avid gardner, loved needle work and sewing, and was an avid sports fan especially loving the Hawkeyes. Through the years Rosalie had worked with many charities.
Funeral services for Rosalie Sheldon will be held at 11:00am on Monday, January 19, 2009, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Reverend David Mears officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00am until service time on Monday.
Rosalie is survived by her husband Gilbert; daughters Connie Sheldon of Mankato, Minnesota, Janice Gsell of Eldridge, Iowa, Barb Sheldon of Redford, Michigan, Nancy Sheldon of Los Angelas, California, and Jill (Craig) Hlas of Cedar Rapids; a son Ron of Lompoc, California; daughter in-laws Jacquelyn Sheldon of Clarence and Virginia Sheldon of Virginia; brother Randall (Rosalie) Sander of Clarence; and 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Rosalie was proceeded in death by her parents, sons Dennis and Philip; and a brother Lowell Sander.
