Rosalyn G. Claney, age 67 of Clarence, passed away on March 25, 2014 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be on Saturday March 29, 2014 at 10:30 A.M at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Clarence. Visitation will be held on Friday March 28, 2014 from 4 to 7 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Rosalyn was born on April 22, 1946 to Lavern and Norma (Kreinbring) Kintzel in Clarence.
She graduated from Clarence High School in 1964. Rosalyn married David Licht, formerly of Lowden, and attended college at the University of Iowa before moving to Minneapolis, MN in 1969. Rosalyn and David later divorced, but she continued to live in Minneapolis, raising her son Daniel and daughter Shannon until after both had graduated from high school. Rosalyn moved home to Clarence in 1995 and married Dean Claney, also of Clarence. Rosalyn and Dean celebrated their 17th anniversary earlier this year. Rosalyn worked in the insurance industry for over 20 years at New York Life, The Guardian and Aflac companies. After returning to Clarence, Rosalyn left insurance to work for Mostaert Trucking and then for St. John's United Church of Christ until her retirement in 2013.
Rosalyn loved playing piano. She played piano and organ at St. John's for church services and choir as well as duets with her sister Arlynn Hasselbusch for special occasions such as Christmas Eve. Rosalyn and Dean also enjoyed vacationing at Woman Lake in Longville, MN, spending many weeks each summer and making many close friendships.
Rosalyn is survived by her husband, Richard (Dean) Claney; son, Daniel Licht of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Shannon (Randy) Degener of Hudson, IA; grandchildren, Ava Licht and Addison Degener; sisters, Kathryn (Robert) Miller of Clarence, Marilyn (Blake) Brown of West Union, IA, and Arlynn (Robert) Hasselbusch of Clarence; many nieces, nephews and extended family; and also Dean's sons, Brian Claney of Plano, TX and Craig (Patty) Claney of Annapolis, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
