Ruth E. Schumacher, age 80, of Clarence, Iowa, died on February 9, 2012 at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport. Ruth was born December 8, 1931, in Evansville, IN to Henry Schlimmer and Marguerite (Henn) Schlimmer. Ruth married Rev. Calvin Schumacher on August 15, 1951 at Evansville, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at St. John's United Church Of Christ in Clarence, Iowa, with Rev David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's United Church Of Christ in Clarence. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 15, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Calvin and Ruth resided in Henderson, KY and Houston, TX before coming and serving St. John's Church in Clarence, IA in 1966. Calvin passed away in 1992 after serving the church for 23 years. Ruth directed a Junior choir for a time and served as adult choir director for 20 years. She was the church secretary for a few years and was a member of the Adult Hand Bell Choir since it started in 1979. She was a member and served offices in the Lend-a-Hand Circle. Her interests were her family, crafts, working in her yard, traveling, photo albums, scrapbooks, bowling, and her cat. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She is survived by sons: Mark (Beth Ann) of Clear Lake, IA, Matthew (Lisa) of Johnston, IA; daughter Marla (Joe )Tedesco of Bettendorf, IA; 6 grandchildren: Abigail and Ashley Schumacher, Hannah and Joshua Schumacher, and Katy and Daniel Finnegan. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and 2 sisters.
