Scott Ryan Kleppe, age 57 of Solon, passed away at The Bird House Hospice Home of Johnson County on Wednesday evening June 10, 2026. There will be a gathering to celebrate Scott on Sunday June 21 at the Lake McBride Golf Course from 2-6 PM with a prayer service to follow. Burial will be in Inland Cemetery, Bennett, at a later date.
Scott was born September 19, 1968 in Davenport, Iowa to Elgene and Jeanne (Schneider) Kleppe. He married Tina Stuhr on September 5, 1992 in Tipton.
Scott is survived by his wife Tina; son Joshua (Jennifer) of Solon; siblings Todd (Shawn) of Tipton, Cragg of Rock Falls, IL, Michelle Knight of Freeport, IL, and Matthew of Solon; father and step mother Sue; and mother and step father Francis Vargas.
He was preceded in death by his son Jordan.
Scott was the public works director for the City of Solon for 26 ½ years and also wore the hat of Assistant City Administrator. At the time of his death, he was a salesman for Midwest Pump Works.
Fishing was more than a hobby for Scott—it was his passion. He loved being on the water, where he found peace, purpose, and joy. He was well known for crafting custom fishing poles, each one carefully built by hand and reflecting the pride he took in his work.
Professionally, Scott earned multiple certifications in water and wastewater management, dedicating countless years to ensuring the health and well-being of his community. His knowledge, work ethic, and commitment to public service left a lasting impact on the people he served.
Scott's legacy extends far beyond his professional accomplishments. He was instrumental in helping establish the Lions Club in Solon and was deeply involved with both the Tipton and Solon Volunteer Fire Departments. His leadership and vision played a key role in organizing Solon Beef Days and in the planning and construction of the new Solon Fire Department building.
His love for community improvement could be seen throughout Solon. Scott helped plant countless trees, supported the creation of the community splash pad, and contributed to numerous projects that enhanced the town he loved. It would be difficult to find a corner of Solon that was not touched in some way by Scott's efforts, generosity, and commitment to making his community a better place.
In lieu of flowers, please contact the City of Solon to donate a tree in Scott's honor.
