Velda L. Wenger, age 90 of Wheatland, passed away suddenly but peacefully with her family by her side on Friday September 11, 2026 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. There will be no services at this time.

Velda was born March 16, 1936 in Afton, Iowa to Lester and Maude (Davis) Overton. She married Fred Wenger on November 7, 1955.

Survivors include her husband Fred; children Roland (Jane) of Wheatland, Rebecca Svobota of Shellsburg, and Richard (Lori) of Willis, Texas; grandchildren Matthew, Marshall, Mayse, Michael, Katie, John, and Joshua; sisters Mary (George) Cook and Hazel Dunbar; and brothers Laverne (Becky) Overton and Allen Overton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Allie and Katherine; and brother Melvin.

Velda passed away peacefully surrounded by the family she cherished so deeply. Her legacy lives on through the soulful notes of the upright bass that she played with such passion for many years, and for many years she enjoyed the atmosphere of Bluegrass concerts with her husband Fred.
