Velma Schilling Folk, age 95, of Clarence, Iowa, died March 6, 2010, at Clarence Nursing Home. Velma was born June 14, 1914, in rural Clarence to William and Susie (Robinson) Schilling. Velma married Howard Folk on October 3, 1948, at Clarence. He died November 26, 1985.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence, Iowa, with Pastor Lynn Butterbrodt officiating. Burial will follow at Clarence Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 9:30 am until service time on on Saturday, March 13, 2010. Memorials can be made to Clarence United Methodist Church.
Velma Attended Clarence Schools and graduated in 1932. She graduated from Tipton Junior College on May 29, 1935. She attended the University of Northern Iowa for one year in 1936. Velma worked at Clarence Cooperative Company and Thein Motors in Clarence. Later she worked in Davenport where she met Howard and was employed by Von Maur. Velma and Howard loved to go to Wisconsin and Minnesota for fishing during the summer months. They also traveled throughout the country with Tri State tours. Velma was a lifelong member of the Clarence United Methodist Church and the church organist as well as singing in the choir for many years.
She is survived by her nephew Phil (Diana) Schilling of Cedar Rapids.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents and brother Marvin Schilling. The family would like to thank the Clarence Nursing Home for all their tender loving care for Velma.
