Walter Lafrenz, age 88, of Lowden, Iowa, died at Clarence Nursing Home on March 3, 2010. Walter was born February 25, 1922, in West Liberty, Iowa, to Jacob and Sophia (Kroeger) Lafrenz. Walter married Nadine Dircks on February 1, 1948, in Lowden. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Zion United Church Of Christ in Lowden, Iowa, with Revernd Barbara Muhs officiating. Burial will follow at Van Horn Cemetery in Lowden with graveside Military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, March 5, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Walter served in the Army during World War II and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and the Lowden American Legion. He is survived by his wife Nadine; daughters Julie (Joe) Evans of Cedar Rapids and Sara Johnston of Everton, Missouri; sons Sam of Lowden and James (Beth) of Memphis, Tennessee. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by parents, sister Lucille Hansen, and brother LeRoy.
