Wayne A. Syring, age 84 of Clarence, passed away on Thursday May 5, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Monday May 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Pastor Tommi Boeder officiating. Burial will follow at the Clarence Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M until service time at the church. Wayne was born on October 13, 1931 to Fred and Martha (Edler) Syring in Bennett, Iowa. He married Carol Rorick on August 3, 1951 in Tipton. Wayne graduated from Bennett High School and served in the Army from January 1951 until January 1954. While in Korea he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He worked for Jack's Feed in Stanwood for 13 years before buying in with Elwood Hasenbank of Clarence in 1968. He bought out Elwood in 1980 and retired in 1996. Wayne was a former member of the Stanwood Fire Department, the Stanwood Legion and served on the Stanwood town council for eight years. After moving to Clarence, he became a member of the Clarence Fire Department and was a volunteer driver for the Clarence Ambulance. He was a member of the Clarence Legion, receiving his 60 year legion pin in 2005. As a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, he served on the church council, the cemetery board and the endowment fund. Wayne was an avid sheepshead player and went on the honor flight to Washington, D.C. He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Al (Marcia) and K.C (Jill) of Clarence; daughter, Karen (Cliff) Klouda of Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Woolison of Davenport. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brother, LaVern; and sisters, Helen Ross and Dorothy Grage.
