William R. Schroeder, age 90, of Wheatland, Iowa, died at the Wheatland Manor Nursing Home on February 18, 2011. William was born January 31, 1921, in Scott County, Iowa, to Rudolph Schroeder and Anna Frieda Claussen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 21, 2011, at St. Paul's United Church Of Christ in Wheatland, Iowa, with Reverend John Cofield officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport. Visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00 pm on Sunday, February 20, at the Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Bill was a self-employed trucker, operating Schroeder Trucking in Bennett for over 30 years, retiring in 1978. He loved playing cards and spending time with his granddaughters and in early years never missed a dance. He is survived by his brother Roger (Barbara) Schroeder of Wilton; his companion for 32 years Shirley Schanze of Wheatland; several nieces and nephews; Shirley's daughter-in-law Mary Schanze of Dewitt; granddaughters Michelle Barns and Melissa Schanze; and great-granddaughter Mya Barnes. William was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Pauline Rathjen and Darlene Kroeger.
